The Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Adeoye Aribasoye, has called on lawyers to join forces with the legislature in order to find lasting solutions to the security challenges currently faced by Nigeria.

Aribasoye made this plea on Monday while inaugurating the Annual Law Week of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in Ikere, Ekiti State. He emphasized the importance of lawyers as invaluable partners in ensuring the safety and security of the citizens.

During the opening ceremony of the Law Week, the speaker acknowledged that the theme of the event, “Security and People’s Welfare in Nigeria’s Democratic Experience: Leveraging the Legal Practice as a Catalyst,” was not only relevant but also timely. He highlighted how lawyers, given their expertise, are well positioned to propose innovative strategies to address the identified security challenges.

Furthermore, Aribasoye implored legal practitioners to uphold the rule of law and work towards the common goals of society. He emphasized the unique role lawyers play in advocating for justice and the welfare of the people.

In his address, Aribasoye stated, “Our state, Ekiti, like many other states in Nigeria, is facing significant challenges in the areas of security and welfare, and I am glad to see legal practitioners coming together to explore ways to leverage their expertise towards finding lasting solutions to these challenges.”

The speaker further remarked, “The legal profession has always been a key partner in the quest for justice, equity, and the rule of law in our society. Lawyers have a unique role to play in advocating for the rights and interests of the people, upholding the law, and promoting common goals in the face of the current challenges facing our nation.”

Aribasoye emphasized the need for collaborative efforts in finding innovative approaches to address the prevailing challenges. He specifically called on lawyers, acknowledging their significant role and expertise, to collaborate with the House of Assembly.

In her keynote address, Hon. Justice Monisola Abodunde, the President of the Customary Court of Appeal in Ekiti State, urged legal practitioners to serve as catalysts for societal development through the use of law.

Michael Afol-Afolayan, the Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association in Ikere Ekiti branch, also highlighted the importance of lawyers complimenting the government’s efforts by utilizing their skills and potential to resolve issues of injustice in society.
