Oyo State House of Assembly Appoints Principal Officers

The Oyo State House of Assembly has made an important announcement regarding the appointment of its principal officers during a plenary session held on Tuesday. This development comes just a week after the House was inaugurated amidst great anticipation.

Continuing in their positions of leadership, Edward Adebowale Ogundoyin and Muhammed Abiodun Fadeyi were re-elected as Speaker and Deputy Speaker, respectively. The re-election of these individuals showcases the confidence and trust that the members of the House have placed in their ability to effectively lead and represent the interests of the people.

During the announcement of the principal officers, the Speaker, Edward Adebowale Ogundoyin, disclosed the names of esteemed individuals who will be assuming key roles in the House. Sanjo Adedoyin (Ogbomoso South) has been appointed as the Majority Leader, while Salami Ayinde Waliu (Irepo) will serve as the Minority Leader.

Furthermore, the Speaker revealed that Gbenga Oyekola (Atiba) will be assuming the position of Chief Whip, with Yusuf Adebisi (Ibadan South West I) as the Deputy Chief Whip, and Sunkanmi Babalola (Egbeda) taking up the role of Deputy Majority Leader. These appointments reflect the diverse talents and expertise within the Assembly, ensuring a comprehensive and balanced representation for the state.

In addition to the principal officer appointments, the House also constituted a seven-man ad hoc committee. This committee has been mandated to carry out an investigation into the alleged misappropriation of funds and other serious allegations levelled against certain council chairpersons. The members of the committee include Peter Ojedokun (Chairman), Oladeji Oparinde, Tunde Kehinde, Gabriel Babajide, Sanjo Adedoyin, Bamidele Adeola, and Akande Modiu. This committee will play a pivotal role in uncovering the truth and ensuring accountability within the government system.
