Transfer: This has to stop – Carragher laments as Man City star, others head to Saudi

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has urged those in charge of football around the world to intervene and stop Saudi Arabian clubs from luring away the game’s biggest stars.

Clubs in Saudi Arabia have drawn some massive players in the last six months.

The likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, N’Golo Kante and a host of others are already in the Middle East.

Earlier this month, Al-Ittihad signed Benzema, giving him a three-year deal worth £172 million per year.

Kante is heading to Al-Ittihad after he becomes a free agent on July 1.

Marca reports that Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva is inching closer to a move to Saudi, which has caused Carragher to lose his cool.

Carragher tweeted: “Bernardo Silva is in his peak years and has been one of the best players in Europe for the last five years!

“I wasn’t worried about the Saudi League taking players in their 30s; I was a touch worried with players below the elite (Neves), but if this happens, it feels like a game changer.

“Saudi have taken over golf, the big boxing fights, and now they want to take over football! This sports washing needs to be stopped! @premierleague @UEFA.”
