Abdullahi Maikaba departs Rangers after successful two-year tenure

Abdullahi Maikaba has bid farewell to Rangers Football Club following the expiration of his contract, bringing an end to his successful reign as head coach.

The experienced tactician took charge of the Flying Antelopes in 2021, and under his leadership, the team achieved commendable milestones, competing for honors in various competitions.

Regrettably, Rangers narrowly missed out on a continental ticket after suffering a hard-fought 1-0 defeat in the finals of the 2023 Federation Cup to Bendel Insurance on Wednesday.

In his farewell message to the club’s media, Maikaba expressed his gratitude for the fruitful two years he spent at Rangers, acknowledging the team’s collective efforts and their journey to the final of this year’s Federation Cup.

“It has been a fruitful two years of working in Enugu that saw us compete for honors in various competitions and got to the final of this year’s Federation Cup which we lost narrowly,” Maikaba stated.

However, the former Rangers coach revealed that he would not be renewing his contract due to personal obligations and family commitments that require his immediate attention.

While bidding adieu to the club, Maikaba assured them that Rangers would always hold a special place in his heart as he moves forward in his coaching career.

He further added, “In all the clubs I have handled, none of them gave me the platform and treatment to perform maximally. I thank the government of Enugu State for the opportunity to serve. I also thank the management, players, coaches, and other staff for their cooperation while my contract lasted.”
