In a bid to address the ongoing leadership crisis gripping the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), a prominent stakeholder from the southeast, Obiora Ugwu, has penned an open letter to President Bola Tinubu for his intervention.
The letter follows a recent court ruling that purportedly removed Barrister Sly Ezeokenwa from his position and affirmed Edozie Njoku as the legitimate APGA National Chairman.
Ugwu’s letter, signed and addressed to Tinubu, draws attention to an alleged abuse of the Nigerian judiciary system by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) regarding the ongoing leadership rivalry involving Edozie Njoku, Victor Oye, and Barr Sly Ezeokenwa.
“The leadership dispute has been ongoing since 2018, with the Supreme Court finally delivering a judgment on March 24, 2023, settling the matter and reinstating Njoku as the national chairman of APGA,” Ugwu explained.
Ugwu expressed his disappointment at the refusal of INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, to comply with the Supreme Court’s order to recognize Njoku as the legitimate leader of APGA.
“It has become a matter of ridicule both nationally and internationally. No responsible nation disobeys a Supreme Court judgment,” said Ugwu.
The open letter, addressed to President Tinubu, called for his intervention to safeguard the integrity of the Nigerian judiciary. Ugwu accused Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State, who also serves as the leader of APGA, of using financial means to prevent the INEC Chairman from obeying the court’s directives, thus undermining the Nigerian judiciary.
“The Southeast region and all stakeholders of APGA are anxiously awaiting the enforcement of these court orders. Mr. President, we implore you to rescue APGA from the clutches of Soludo and INEC Chairman, Yakubu,” pleaded Ugwu.
