The government of Osun State, led by Governor Ademola Adeleke, has commenced a thorough staff audit across the public service in an effort to address existing vacancies and enhance the delivery of essential services in the education, health, and other sectors.
Malam Olawale Rasheed, the spokesperson for the governor, issued a statement on Saturday in Osogbo, highlighting the key details of the exercise. The staff audit began with the biometric capture of Governor Adeleke, his Deputy, and the Speaker of the House of Assembly at the Governor’s office on Friday.
Prior to the data capturing, a closed-door meeting took place between the governor and state labor leaders. During this meeting, processes and procedures were finalized to ensure the protection and fulfillment of the interests of all stakeholders involved in the staff audit.
Governor Adeleke, in his address, emphasized that the exercise is not intended as a witch-hunt but is rather a proactive measure to strengthen the capacity of the state government to meet the needs of workers, the general public, and the state’s leadership.
The governor stated, “Our administration has workers’ welfare as our number one priority. We will not take any action that will have a negative impact on both formal and informal workers.” He further explained that the staff audit aims to achieve several goals, such as cleaning up the payroll system, verifying the actual number of state workforce, and identifying areas with vacancies across various sectors of the public service.
“We need to authenticate the data of our workforce. We also need to confirm the existing vacancies within the public service,” Governor Adeleke affirmed.
Furthermore, the governor disclosed that he has already instructed the collation of vacancies for teachers and health workers. The compilation process is near completion and will enable data-driven management of the public service. This approach will ascertain the number of teachers required in schools and identify the specific subject areas where teachers are needed.
“We are aware of the existing vacancies in our schools and health facilities,” Governor Adeleke assured the public. He added that the audit report will establish a strong foundation for the recruitment of new teachers and health workers once the ongoing exercise concludes.
By conducting this comprehensive staff audit, Osun State aims to streamline its public service, improve efficiency, and ensure that the workforce can effectively meet the needs of its citizens.
