BET Awards 2023: Tems Clinches Victory with Future and Drake

In a dazzling display of talent and artistry, Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, emerged triumphant at the 23rd BET Awards held in the vibrant city of Los Angeles on Sunday night.

Although she may have missed out on two of her nominations, Tems seized the spotlight by securing the coveted “Best Collaboration” award for her remarkable contribution to Future’s hit track, ‘Wait For U’, which also features Canadian rap superstar, Drake.

This achievement follows the tremendous success of ‘Wait For U’, which recently clinched the esteemed honor of “Best Melodic Rap Performance” at the 2023 Grammys.

Undoubtedly, the BET Awards add another feather to the cap of this chart-topping song, which peaked at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart last year.

Prior to her remarkable win, Tems faced stiff competition in the categories of “Best Female R&B/Pop Artist”, where she narrowly missed out to the talented SZA, and the prestigious “Viewer’s Choice” award, which ultimately went to the iconic Beyoncé.

In a similar vein, Burna Boy, the celebrated “African Giant” himself, was also pitted against formidable contenders. Despite his loss in the “Best Male R&B/Pop Artist” category to the likes of Chris Brown and Usher, as well as missing out on the “Best Video Director” award to the incomparable Teyana Taylor, Burna Boy still had reason to celebrate. He clinched the highly coveted title of “Best International Act” for an unprecedented fourth time.

Beyoncé and SZA were the frontrunners of the night, each taking home an impressive three awards, solidifying their status as visionary powerhouses in the music industry.
