Troops of the Nigerian Army have conducted a successful raid on suspected camps belonging to unrepentant militants and illegal oil bunkerers in the Bayelsa creeks. During the operation, an armoury was discovered and captured, according to a statement by the director of Army Public Relations, Brigadier-General Onyema Nwachukwu. The raid, which took place on Sunday at Azuzuama Community in Ijaw South Local Government Area of Bayelsa, was carried out by troops of the 5 Battalion operating under the 16 Brigade.
With superior firepower, the troops overpowered the suspected militants, leading them to flee their camp in disarray. The raid resulted in the recovery of a significant cache of arms, including five AK 47 Rifles, two rocket propelled grenade bombs, four rocket grenade bomb chargers, seven 7.62mm special ammunition, 14 AK 47 Rifle magazines, and one pumping machine. Additionally, the troops seized two 16-inch anchored verve, one mallet hammer, one pipe range spinner, and one axe. The illicit camp was also destroyed by the soldiers.
In response to the successful operation, the Nigerian Army expressed gratitude to the public and urged citizens to continue providing timely and credible information. Such cooperation would assist in ongoing efforts to eliminate oil theft in the South-South region. By capturing these camps and confiscating their arsenal, the Nigerian Army is sending a strong message to militants and illegal oil bunkerers, underscoring its commitment to maintaining law and order in the country.
Nigerians can now rest assured that the government is taking decisive action to curb the activities of militants and illegal oil bunkerers who pose a significant threat to national security and economic stability. The recovery of these arms represents a significant blow to the criminal elements involved in oil theft in the region. The Nigerian Army’s actions demonstrate their determination to bring the illicit activities of these individuals to a swift end.
As the fight against illegal oil bunkering and other criminal activities continues, it is vital for the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the relevant authorities. With the support and cooperation of citizens, the Nigerian Army can make further progress in ridding the South-South region of oil theft and other illegal activities that hamper national development.
