Beauty queen cautions against smear campaign

Ahead of the 2023 elections, Miss Africa, United Nations, Jodie Frank, has called on candidates to speak on issues and how they hope to transform the country rather than name-calling.

She also urged the security operatives to go after those involved in electoral violence to serve as deterrence to others.

The beauty queen spoke during a programme to sensitise youths against electoral violence.

The programme was organised Jacco’s Charity International in collaboration with God Sent Foundation on Friday in Abuja.

Frank said, “While the campaign is still on, I call on political parties and candidates to restrict themselves to issue-based campaigns. They should tell Nigerians how they hope to address the challenges bedevilling the name-calling rather than engaging in mudslinging, name-calling and other acts capable of causing acrimony.

“It is also time for government and relevant agencies to start prosecuting those who will dare to make inciting statements capable of igniting violence. I also urge Nigerians not to sell their votes. If the best candidate does not have the chance to win, waste your vote on him without a second thought.”

Speaking at the event, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Sadiya Farouq, urged Nigerians to shun violence and inducements during the election.
