As Muslims in Osun celebrate Eid-el-Kabir today, the Osun State Police Command and Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have assured the public of adequate security arrangements to ensure a peaceful celebration.
In a statement released by the Commissioner of Police, Patrick Kehinde Longe, and the Command’s spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, the police emphasized their commitment to guaranteeing the safety of lives and properties before, during, and after the festivities. The statement also reiterated the importance of using enclosed areas for celebrations instead of celebrating on the streets, as well as the need for residents and visitors to be security conscious and law-abiding. The police encouraged the public to report any suspicious activities and provided contact numbers for prompt reporting.
The NSCDC also disclosed that a total of 1,520 personnel have been deployed for the festival in the state. These personnel, drawn from various specialized units within the NSCDC, are tasked with ensuring the safety of public spaces, praying grounds, recreational centers, malls, marketplaces, and critical national assets. The Commandant of Osun NSCDC, Sunday Agboola, emphasized the importance of collaboration with other security agencies for a successful celebration and called on the public to report any unusual movements or persons to the nearest security agency.
Both the Osun State Police Command and NSCDC urged Muslims to observe the celebration within the confines of the law and use the period to pray for peace, stability, and progress in the country.
The assurance by the security agencies and the deployment of personnel demonstrates the government’s commitment to ensuring a safe and peaceful celebration of Eid-el-Kabir in Osun State. It is hoped that these proactive measures will contribute to the overall security of the state and enable residents and visitors to fully enjoy the festivities.
