The Governor of Kogi State in Northcentral Nigeria, Yahaya Bello, has called on the people of the state to prioritize their security and abide by the law at all times. This appeal comes as the governor observed the Eid Al-Adha prayer at the Okene prayer ground, situated in his country home.
In his address, Governor Bello urged the citizens to respect constituted authority while emphasizing his commitment to developing the state. He expressed gratitude for the protection, guidance, and good health he has enjoyed throughout his tenure as governor.
“I am thankful to God Almighty for bringing us this far. This will be my last time praying on this ground as a governor, and I am grateful for the positive change we have achieved during my leadership,” he said.
The governor also called on the people to exercise patience with the current government, assuring them that better days are ahead under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He highlighted his government’s efforts in ensuring peace and security in the state over the past seven years.
Furthermore, Governor Bello appealed to the Chief Imam of Ebiraland, Sheik Salihu Abere, to use his position as a religious leader to unite the people, regardless of their beliefs. He encouraged the chief imam to remain focused on his duties and not allow anyone to deter him.
The Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, His Royal Highness Ado Ibrahim, commended Governor Yahaya Bello for his development efforts across the state, while the Chief Imam, Sheik Salihu Abere, reminded Muslims to draw closer to God through intensive prayer to receive His favor.
Eid Al-Adha, also known as the Feast of the Sacrifice, is the second of the two official holidays in Islam. It marks the completion of the Hajj pilgrimage and involves the sacrifice of animals as a symbol of devotion to Allah.
Islamic Scholar Sheikh Imam Salih explained that Eid Al-Adha falls on different dates each year, depending on the sighting of the new moon. The observation of the event varies in different parts of the world and can last for three days or more.
This year, Eid Al-Adha will commence on Wednesday, 28th June 2023 in Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, and other countries.
The significance of this annual Islamic event lies in the unwavering faith and obedience demonstrated by Prophet Ibrahim when he was commanded by Allah to sacrifice his beloved son, Ismail, according to the teachings of the Qur’an.
As the citizens of Kogi State celebrate Eid Al-Adha, Governor Yahaya Bello’s call for law-abiding behavior and security consciousness serves as a reminder of the importance of prioritizing peace and safeguarding the welfare of the state.
