Chelsea is considering a move for Barcelona’s out-of-favour midfielder, Franck Kessie, as manager Mauricio Pochettino has expressed his admiration for the player, according to reliable sources.
The Blues are on the lookout for a new midfielder this summer and are specifically targeting a defensively astute player to partner Enzo Fernandez in the heart of their midfield.
While Chelsea’s priority remains the acquisition of Moises Caicedo from Brighton, negotiations with the club have hit a snag, making a deal for the Ecuadorian international appear expensive and difficult to pull off.
In light of this, the Chelsea hierarchy is exploring more economical alternatives, with Kessie emerging as a potential candidate. Pochettino had previously attempted to secure Kessie’s services during his tenure at Tottenham, making the Ivorian an appealing option.
Kessie currently finds himself surplus to requirements at Barcelona, and the Catalan giants are actively seeking a buyer for the midfielder.
In addition to Chelsea’s interest, there has also been reported interest from Saudi Arabian club Al-Ahli for the Ivory Coast international’s signature.
