Three suspects have been apprehended by the police for the alleged murder of Sub-Lt. Samuel Akingbohun, a Nigerian Navy officer, in Idoani, Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State. The police paraded the suspects in Akure on Thursday, with the intention of shedding light on the case to the public.

According to SP Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, the suspects were caught attempting to flee the community after the incident took place. Two of the suspects were reported to be 20 years old, while the third was 17.

During her statement to journalists, Ms. Odunlami-Omisanya revealed that investigations revealed a violent altercation between the naval officer and one of the suspects. This initial exchange led to a physical fight, which escalated when the other two suspects joined in. It was during this confrontation that one of the suspects struck the officer on the head and groin with an iron rod.

The gravity of the officer’s injuries resulted in him losing consciousness. He was promptly rushed to a local hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries, as confirmed by a medical doctor.

The police spokesperson stressed that the suspects will face legal prosecution in court for the charge of murder. The Nigerian Navy and law enforcement agencies are committed to bringing justice to the deceased officer and his grieving family.

The tragic incident serves as a reminder of the prevailing need for security and the importance of maintaining law and order within our communities. The authorities are working diligently to ensure that those responsible for this heinous crime are held accountable for their actions.

As the investigation progresses and the case comes before the court, the Nigerian public awaits the outcome, placing their trust in the justice system to provide closure for the family of Sub-Lt. Samuel Akingbohun and serve as a deterrent to potential perpetrators of violence.
