Lagos state Governor, Bola Tinubu, has declared his opposition to the bleeding of Nigeria’s economy through the payment of oil subsidies. Speaking at a reception held by the Lagos State Government, Tinubu emphasized the need to put an end to the wastage of financial resources on fuel subsidies and the arbitrary exchange regime. He stated, “We’ve to re-engineer the effectiveness of control and management of our resources in order to meet the obligations owed to Nigerians.” Tinubu affirmed his commitment to fulfilling the promises made during his campaign and making decisions in the interest of the country.
Tinubu also pledged to collaborate with the national assembly and state governors to achieve the renewed hope agenda of his administration by ensuring a true separation of powers. The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, expressed his confidence in Tinubu’s leadership, attesting that the decisions made by the president have already greatly contributed to the country’s development. Akpabio further stated that Lagos, under Tinubu’s leadership, serves as a model for other states in Nigeria.
The support of the state governors was also acknowledged by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State and Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State. They expressed their full support for Tinubu’s policies and programmes, emphasizing the importance of their collective efforts in bringing about positive change in Nigeria’s economy. AbdulRazaq, who is also the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum, commended Tinubu’s decision to remove the petroleum subsidy and reverse the arbitrary exchange regime.
