In a significant development, the retired Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Prof. Abdulrasheed Abubakar, has officially handed over the reins of leadership to the Deputy Executive Secretary, Chris Maiyaki. The ceremony marking this transition took place on Friday at the NUC headquarters.
Prof. Abubakar, who chose to voluntarily step down as Executive Secretary on Tuesday, has decided to return to his academic pursuits as a lecturer at Bayero University, Kano. While the specific reason for his resignation remains undisclosed, it is worth noting that he had three years remaining in his second tenure at the Commission.
Effective from the 1st of June 2023, Prof. Abubakar is set to assume his new role as a classroom teacher at Bayero University Kano. His departure from the NUC marks the end of an era for university education in Nigeria, as he is widely recognized as a trailblazer in this field.
In his acceptance speech, Chris Maiyaki expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to succeed Prof. Abubakar. He commended his predecessor for his outstanding contributions to the advancement of university education and extended heartfelt wishes for his future endeavors.
