Osun Government Plans to Enroll Pensioners in Health Insurance Scheme

The Osun State Government has announced its intention to enroll contributory pensioners in the state health insurance scheme. This move comes as Governor Ademola Adeleke issues a directive for the immediate payment of pension entitlements, following the template released earlier in 2023.

During a meeting with leaders of thought from the state, Governor Adeleke emphasized his commitment to addressing the concerns raised by pensioners. He acknowledged the template released in 2023 for clearing outstanding salaries and pensions and directed the Head of Service to expedite its implementation by ensuring the payment of pension arrears.

“The template was created with an eye on gradual clearing of the salary and pension debts, taking into consideration the documented financial situation of the state,” Governor Adeleke explained. He further assured pensioners that his administration prioritizes workers’ welfare, including both current and retired employees.

In addition to the ongoing efforts to address pension arrears, Governor Adeleke disclosed plans to enroll pensioners under the state health insurance scheme. Recognizing the health needs of senior citizens, he emphasized the importance of providing them with accessible healthcare during their retirement years.

“Our administration is working tirelessly on health insurance enrollment for the pensioners,” Governor Adeleke revealed. “Enrolling them in the state health insurance scheme will alleviate the financial burden of treatment during their retirement. We are currently finalizing the details and will release them for immediate implementation.”

This announcement by the Osun State Government has been met with enthusiasm by pensioners, who have long advocated for better healthcare provisions. With the implementation of the health insurance scheme, pensioners will have the peace of mind that comes with knowing their healthcare needs will be adequately covered.

As the government continues to work towards the welfare of its citizens, the enrollment of pensioners in the health insurance scheme marks a significant step in ensuring a comfortable retirement for those who have given years of dedicated service to the state.
