Christophe Galtier, the head coach of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), may face a maximum prison sentence of three years for alleged moral harassment and discrimination. The trial for Galtier’s case has been scheduled to commence on December 15th of this year.
The controversy surrounding Galtier stems from an email he purportedly sent during his tenure as head coach of OGC Nice. The email, which has caused significant backlash, allegedly contained the following statement: “You have assembled a team of individuals who are morally corrupt. There is a disproportionate representation of individuals of African descent, and it has come to my attention that half the team regularly attends Friday prayers at the mosque.”
These deeply troubling words have quickly gotten Galtier in hot water. The 56-year-old coach, along with his son, John Valovic-Galtier, found themselves in police custody last Friday for questioning regarding the matter.
If Galtier is found guilty during the impending December trial, he could face severe consequences. According to reports from Sportskeeda, the PSG manager could be handed a three-year prison sentence and fined up to €45,000.
As of now, Paris Saint-Germain has yet to release a statement regarding the recent incident involving Galtier. It is widely speculated that the Qatari owners of the French Ligue champions are planning to terminate Galtier’s contract in light of the ongoing controversy.
Rumors have already begun circulating about potential replacements for Galtier. One prominent name linked to PSG is the former manager of Barcelona and the Spanish national team, Luis Enrique.
