Former aide to President Muhammadu Buhari, Barrister Okoi Obono-Obla, has urged Governor Bassey Otu not to shy away from making tougher and more audacious decisions that will rejuvenate Cross River State.
In a statement released on Sunday, Obono-Obla commended the governor for cancelling the controversial Cally Air agreement with Aero Contractors, which was entered into by former Governor Ben Ayade.
He acknowledged that in just one month in office, Governor Otu has made what appears to be the right decisions, laying the groundwork for substantial change in the state’s administrative and political governance. However, he emphasized that the people are craving for more.
“I urge him to continue making robust, bold, and courageous decisions that will forge the transformation we all desire to revamp, rejuvenate, and reform the public service of the state, restoring it to its previous glory,” Obono-Obla said.
The former presidential aide also praised the governor for the brave decision to terminate the opaque Cally Air Concession agreement with Aero Contractors. He also commended his establishment of a committee to assess the agreements made with various concessionaires to oversee state-owned industries.
Obono-Obla further called on Governor Otu to reform and reposition the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River State as a means of addressing alleged injustices and marginalization experienced by certain groups.
He divulged that directives issued by the state party executive committee, allowing wards to nominate potential candidates for appointments and empowerment, have reportedly been hijacked.
“If the governor does not act immediately and decisively, this poses a threat to both him and the party,” Obono-Obla warned.
