The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Major General Taoreed Lagbaja, has called on troops of the Nigerian Army (NA) to supplement their military efforts with prayers for the success of the Nigerian Army (NA) in its operational engagements.
Major General Lagbaja emphasized the importance of spiritual efforts in maintaining the corporate existence of Nigeria as a unified entity, especially amidst the contemporary security challenges plaguing the nation.
Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations, made this announcement in a statement on Sunday during the Interdenominational Church Service held to commemorate the Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) 2023 at the Mogadishu Military Cantonment in Abuja.
According to the statement, the Nigerian Army has already commenced the celebration of its 160th year of existence since 1867, when 18 men known as the Glover Hausas of the Royal Navy were formed into a formidable force.
Major General Lagbaja reiterated that the Nigerian Army remains the pride of the nation and a force to be reckoned with in Africa and globally. He emphasized that the Interdenominational Church Service is among the series of activities earmarked for all Nigerian Army formations and units to commemorate the birth of the Nigerian Army as a symbol of national unity and integration.
“It also provides the opportunity for prayers and supplications to be made to God Almighty on behalf of the Nigerian Army, the Armed Forces of Nigeria, and the nation in general,” Major General Lagbaja stated.
He further acknowledged that the Nigerian Army’s journey has not been without challenges, citing the involvement of the army in the civil war, peacekeeping missions, and the ongoing fight against terrorism, insurgency, and other criminal activities across the country.
Major General Lagbaja called on all Nigerian Army personnel to reflect on the security challenges facing the nation and include them in their prayers, expressing his belief that God Almighty will ultimately crown the efforts of the Nigerian Army and the Armed Forces of Nigeria with success.
