Curb exploitative charges by banks – Financial expert tells CBN

Mr Okechukwu Unegbu, a financial expert, has called on the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to check the multiplicity of service charges by Deposit Money Banks (DMBs).

According to NAN, Unegbu, a past president of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN), made the appeal in an interview on Sunday in Abuja.

According to him, banks no longer empathise with their customers.

“What we have now is a situation where the DMBs pile up so many unexplained charges on their customers without offering service.

“The acting CBN governor, Folashodun Shonubi, should pay particular attention to understanding the DMBs and their customers and fully regulate their activities,” he advised.

Often Nigerians have complained about the multiple, unexplained charges being deducted from their bank accounts.
