A federal lawmaker representing Ado/ Okpokwu/ Ogbadibo Federal Constituency, Benue State, in the House of Representatives, Philip Agbese, has lauded the significant role played by the immediate past Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen Lucky Irabor, in the fight against Boko Haram insurgents. Speaking to reporters in Abuja on Sunday following Irabor’s retirement from the Armed Forces of Nigeria on Friday, Agbese described his 30-month tenure as “the best in the country’s recent history.”

In his praise, Agbese emphasized that under Irabor’s leadership, the military had witnessed remarkable growth and improvement, with Irabor displaying extraordinary patriotism, unwavering commitment, and loyalty to the nation by upholding democratic principles. Agbese extended his congratulations to Gen Lucky Irabor for his successful 37-year career in the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

“Irabor showcased unwavering dedication, resilience, and strategic acumen in addressing Nigeria’s complex security challenges. Notably, he played a significant role in the fight against the Boko Haram insurgency and other security threats plaguing the country,” Agbese stated.

Despite his retirement, Agbese emphasized that Gen Lucky Irabor’s energy and patriotism remained as strong as ever, and that his experience and expertise would continue to be valuable to the nation. President Bola Tinubu had already appointed Major General Christopher Gwabin to replace Irabor on June 19.
