The Anambra State Government has taken decisive action in response to the widespread controversy surrounding the exceptional result of a candidate from the state in the recently concluded Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, the state’s Commissioner for Education, has announced the formation of a panel of inquiry tasked with investigating the allegations of result falsification levelled against Mmesoma Ejikeme, the candidate in question.

In a statement issued in Awka on Monday, Prof. Chuma-Udeh stated, “A panel of inquiry has been set up to collaborate with security agencies in conducting a thorough investigation into the claims of result falsification made against Mmesoma Ejikeme, who had previously been hailed on social media for achieving the highest score.”

The Commissioner expressed her disappointment at the controversy surrounding the actual result obtained by Ejikeme, particularly at a time when Governor Chukwuma Soludo is making significant efforts to reposition the education sector in Anambra State.

Mmesoma Ejikeme, a student of Anglican Girls Secondary School Uruagu in Nnewi, had gained widespread attention following the release of the 2023 UTME results by the Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB). She was celebrated for allegedly achieving the highest score of 362 in the examination.

However, JAMB swiftly refuted these claims, stating that Ejikeme’s result was falsified using internet software. Their statement released on Sunday alleged that Ejikeme had manipulated her actual score from 249 to 362, sparking a fierce debate regarding the plausibility of this form of malpractice.

While the government of Anambra State embarks on an investigation into the alleged falsification by Mmesoma Ejikeme, they have also commended Nkechinyere Umeh, who was declared the highest scorer nationwide by JAMB, with a remarkable cumulative mark of 360.
