The Osun State Police Command has issued a firm warning to its personnel attached to government officials, urging them to refrain from performing domestic duties for these officials. The command emphasized that police officers assigned to government officials are primarily meant to protect lives and properties, rather than serve as domestic servants.
The Commissioner of Police, Patrick Kehinde Longe, reiterated this message in a statement released on Monday. The statement, signed by the Command’s spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, highlighted the need for appropriate sanctions to be imposed on police personnel who engage in acts that deviate from their core duty of ensuring the safety and security of government officials.
The command strongly advised government officials to employ the services of domestic staff and personal assistants for their specific household needs, rather than relying on police officers for tasks such as carrying handbags, opening gates, and holding umbrellas.
Expressing their concern over the misuse of police orderlies, the statement read, “The Osun State Police Command is dismayed by the manner in which these personalities utilize police orderlies attached to them for domestic duties.”
It further emphasized, “We wish to state emphatically that the policemen attached to them are meant to protect their lives and property and not serve as domestic servants.”
The command’s directive reflects its commitment to maintaining high standards of professionalism and ethics within the police force. It urges police officers attached to government officials to discontinue any activities that do not align with their primary duty of safeguarding their principals from security threats.
The statement concluded by stating, “These categories of government officials are enjoined to employ the services of domestic staff and personal assistants to carry out such services.”
By issuing this warning and reinforcing the proper role of police personnel, the Osun State Police Command aims to ensure that its officers are deployed effectively and efficiently, while government officials are encouraged to fulfill their domestic needs through appropriate channels.
