In their relentless pursuit of defensive reinforcements, Brighton & Hove Albion has entered into talks with Ajax over the possible transfer of Calvin Bassey.
The Seagulls turned to Bassey as an alternative after their bid to acquire Lewi Colwill from Chelsea was rejected.
Reports emerged on Monday indicating that the Premier League club has set its sights on Bassey.
Renowned transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, revealed on Twitter that Brighton has already initiated discussions with Ajax regarding the potential acquisition of the player.
“Brighton have already started contacts for Calvin Bassey as the new centre-back. The Levi Colwill deal looks complicated as Chelsea remains steadfast in their position: he is not for sale. 🔵 #BHAFC,” Romano tweeted.
“De Zerbi appreciates Bassey, waiting for Ajax to clarify the potential asking price.”
This is not the first time that Bassey has captured Brighton’s attention, as the club had previously considered signing him last summer before he ultimately opted for a move to Ajax.
