Nigeria’s Cinemas Record Impressive Revenue of N567m in June

In a recent report, the Cinema Exhibitors Association of Nigeria (CEAN) announced that Nigeria’s cinemas generated an impressive revenue of N567 million in the month of June. This figure is a significant increase compared to the revenue generated in May.

Opeyemi Ajayi, the National Chairman of CEAN, shared this information during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria. Ajayi also revealed that a total of 210,299 viewers were accommodated across cinemas in the country during the month under review.

The increase in revenue for June is undoubtedly a positive development for the Nigerian cinema industry, as it signifies a gradual recovery from the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Cinemas were severely impacted by the pandemic, with extended closures and limited capacity upon reopening.

Mr. Ajayi expressed his delight at the growth in revenue, stating, “We were able to rake in N567,899,087 for the month of June with 210,299 viewers admission across the cinemas. We have a slight increase in sales in the month of June compared to May.”

It is encouraging to see that more Nigerians are returning to cinemas to enjoy the big screen experience once again. The rise in revenue can be attributed to the release of highly anticipated movies and the easing of COVID-19 restrictions, allowing more people to visit cinemas.

Looking ahead, Mr. Ajayi shared the exciting movies that will be showcased in cinemas during the month of July. Some of the notable films include “Lust Lobe and Other Things,” “Mission Impossible 7,” “Insidious,” “Orisha,” “Oppenheimer,” “Hotel Labamba,” and “Unforgivable.” These movies are expected to attract a large audience and contribute to the continued growth of the cinema industry.

The Nigerian film industry, often referred to as Nollywood, has experienced remarkable growth in recent years. With the resurgence of cinema attendance and the release of highly anticipated movies, it is clear that Nigerians have a deep love for film and a desire to support local talent.

The positive trajectory of the Nigerian cinema industry is a testament to the resilience and creativity of its stakeholders. As cinemas continue to flourish and attract more viewers, the industry will play a vital role in showcasing Nigerian stories and contributing to the country’s cultural and economic development.

With the steady recovery of the cinema sector, it is hoped that the positive trend will continue, ultimately leading to even greater success for Nigerian cinemas in the coming months.
