Kingsley Chinda Elected as Reps Minority Leader in a Surprising Move

In a stunning turn of events, Kingsley Chinda, a close ally of former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, has emerged as the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives. This announcement came on Tuesday during the resumption of plenary, made by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas.

It should be noted that Chinda was originally nominated for the position of Minority Leader in 2019. However, former Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila decided to appoint Ndudi Elumelu as the Minority Leader instead.

Nevertheless, Chinda played a prominent role in the election of Abbas as the new Speaker. This alliance seems to have paid off for him, as he now assumes the pivotal role of Minority Leader.

In a similar vein, Julius Ihonvbere, a staunch ally of Adams Oshiomhole, was elected as the Majority Leader of the House, while Abdullahi Halims of Kogi State is now the Deputy Majority Leader.

As for Mr. Chinda, he has chosen Ali Madaki of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) as his deputy, demonstrating a commitment to unity between different political parties.

The newly appointed principal officers also include Bello, who will serve as the Chief Whip, representing the Akko federal constituency of Gombe. Serving as the Deputy Chief Whip is Adewunmi Onanuga, representing Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North federal constituency in Ogun State.

Completing the line-up are Ali Isa of the PDP, who emerged as the Minority Whip, and George Ebizimawo of the Labour Party as the Deputy Minority Whip of the House.

This reshuffling of leadership positions in the House of Representatives has taken many by surprise and sets the stage for potentially significant shifts in the dynamics of the legislative body. It remains to be seen how Chinda and his fellow principal officers will navigate their new roles and shape the course of Nigerian politics.
