The President and Chairman of Council of the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers, Johnbull Amayaevbo, has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to take action against individuals who provide false information in their asset declarations.
Amayaevbo emphasized that individuals who under-declare or over-declare their assets should be held accountable in accordance with the law.
During an interview with journalists in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State in North Central Nigeria, Amayaevbo affirmed that every asset declarant is legally obliged to honestly and sincerely disclose their assets and liabilities. Failure to do so should result in severe penalties.
The President urged members of the Institution to uphold honesty and dedication, which he noted as the motto of the organization.
He expressed concern about the growing global intolerance towards corruption and emphasized that the fight against corruption is an important ongoing topic for the United Nations and its member states.
Amayaevbo emphasized that part of the Institution’s responsibilities is to regulate and oversee the practice of Estate Surveying and Valuation in Nigeria. Additionally, they assist in combating corruption by ensuring accurate valuation and evaluation of properties owned by public office holders.
Amayaevbo revealed that over its fifty-four years of existence, the Institution has effectively promoted the interests of the profession and served the public by providing guidance to individuals, government departments, associations, statutory bodies, and local entities.
He reiterated the significance of asset valuation in any country as a means to gauge its economic growth and development.
Regarding the recently concluded 53rd annual conference of the Nigerian Institute of Estate Surveyors and Valuers, Amayevbo expressed satisfaction and gratitude towards all dignitaries in attendance. He particularly acknowledged the presence of the State Governor, Mallam Abdul Rahman AbdulRazaq, the Emir Of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu Gambari, other traditional rulers, the former President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, and the guest speakers who contributed to the weeklong event.
Lastly, Amayevbo conveyed optimism in the administration of President Bola Tinubu and commended him for the decisions he has made since assuming office.
