The trial of Frederick Nwajagu, the Eze Ndigbo of Ajao Estate in Lagos State, was brought to a halt on Tuesday due to the absence of his legal representation.
Nwajagu, who is facing trial before the Lagos High Court situated at the historic Tafawa Balewa Square, was charged by the Lagos State government on May 9 on nine counts. These charges include attempted terrorism, involvement in terrorism, and meeting to support a proscribed entity.
The Department of State Services (DSS) apprehended Nwajagu following his alleged threats to invite members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to Lagos.
In defense, Nwajagu asserted that he intended to rely on IPOB members to safeguard the interests and properties of Igbos residing in Lagos State. He pleaded not guilty to all the charges pressed against him.
Justice Yetunde Adesanya, presiding over the case, adjourned the hearing until Wednesday due to the absence of the defendant’s legal counsel.
