The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has expressed shock and condolences over the recent tragic incidents that befell the Salvation Army and the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), describing them as devastating blows to the body of Christ in Nigeria and the nation as a whole.
The fatal accident near Benin City, Edo State, resulted in the loss of twelve pastors, a baby, and a driver. CAN stands in solidarity with the Salvation Army during this difficult time, offering prayers for comfort and urging the government authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the accident.
In a statement signed by Archbishop Daniel Okoh, President of CAN, the attack on worshippers at the Redeemed Christian Church of God in Abule-Ori, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State, was condemned as an assault on religious freedom in Nigeria. The Christian body mourned the loss of a pastor and strongly denounced the kidnapping of innocent worshippers exercising their right to religious freedom.
CAN commended the swift response of security agencies to the attack and called for intensified efforts to apprehend all perpetrators. They also urged security agencies to increase vigilance and provide adequate security measures in places of worship during religious gatherings.
Despite the recent losses, CAN encouraged citizens not to be discouraged but to continue looking up to God for help. Their thoughts and prayers are with the affected families and churches, and they hope that the souls of the departed may rest in eternal peace.
