Kano anti-corruption agency vindicates DAILY NIGERIAN, confirms authenticity of Ganduje dollar videos

The chairman of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission, Muhuyi Rimingado, on Wednesday said forensic analysis had confirmed the authenticity of videos showing a former governor of the state, Abdullahi Ganduje, bundles of dollars from a contractor.

In 2018, DAILY NIGERIAN exclusively published the controversial videos, which the governor insisted they were “cloned”.

Mr Rimingado disclosed the findings of forensic analysis of the clips during “A One Day Public Dialogue on Anti-Corruption Crusade in Kano”, saying the authenticity of the videos had been confirmed.

He said since the release of the footages, people have been challenging the commission under him to prove the innocence or otherwise of the former governor in the matter.

He added that his commission commenced investigation in 2018 but could not go far because Mr Ganduje had immunity at the time.

On June 14, Mr Ganduje asked a Federal High Court in Kano to perpetually restrain the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, from investigating him over the video clips which showed him receiving bundles of dollars from a contractor.

In a suit filed before the high court, the former Attorney General of the state, MA Lawan, asked the court to restrain the anti-graft commission from probing Mr Ganduje until a suit between the former governor and the publisher of the DAILY NIGERIAN, Jaafar Jaafar, was determined.

The EFCC is the only defendant in the suit.

Mr Ganduje also prayed the court to declare as illegal the invitation and interrogation of the former chairman of State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB and former accountant general of the state in connection to the video.
