Dr Usman Bashir has emerged the chairman of Nigerian Association of Medical and Dental Academics, NAMDA, BUK/AKTH chapter in a keenly contested election in Kano.

DAILY NIGERIAN reports that the association conducted its maiden general meeting and elections at the lecture hall of the Faculty of Clinical Sciences, BUK/AKTH Kano.

Others elected are Dr Kabiru Abdulsalam from Chemical Pathology, BUK/AKTH as vice chairman; Dr Mustapha Yusuf from Medical Microbiology and Entomology, BUK/AKTH as secretary; Dr Sulaiman Abdulrashid from Maxillofacial Surgery BUK/AKTH as deputy secretary and Dr Zainab Abdulqadir from Family Medicine, AKTH as treasurer.

Also elected are Dr Sabir Muhammad Iya from Oral and Maxillofacial Basic Sciences, BUK/AKTH as financial secretary; Dr Kamal Sidi from Internal Medicine, AKTH as financial secretary; Dr Kamal Sidi from Internal Medicine, AKTH as public relations officer; Dr Adama Jibril from Human Physiology, BUK as welfare secretary and; Dr Mahdi Gambo Disi from Human Physiology, BUK as auditor.

In his acceptance speech, the newly inaugurated branch chairman, extended an olive branch to all other contestants to come together and move the nascent association forward.

He promised to carry all members along to achieve the desired goal of improved welfare for medical and dental academics and address their peculiarities within the academia.

NAMDA is a labour union recently registered for medical and dental doctors in academia, teaching hospitals, research institutions and other fora that involved teaching and research in medicine.
