Niger government announces temporary closure of Minna-Bida road

The Niger State government has announced plans to carry out maintenance work on some damaged culverts on the Minna-Bida Road on Tuesday.

During the maintenance work, the government said the road will be closed to users between 12 p.m. and 6 p.m.

This was disclosed in a statement issued by the special adviser, Digital Communications to the state governor, Abdulberqy Ebbo, on Saturday.

The statement reads: “Please be informed that the Niger State Government will be closing the Minna-Bida road on Tuesday, July 18, 2023, for 6 hours [from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.] to allow engineers to carry out proactive maintenance work.

“The general public may recall that the collapse of multiple cell culverts on this road at chainage 62km from Minna has become a yearly affair for about 10 years now, causing a lot of hardship to motorists, which in most cases has led to the closure of the road for about a week or more for emergency repair to be carried out.

“It is in light of the above that the Niger State Government is taking a proactive measure this year to prevent a recurrence of the now annual collapse of this culvert during the rainy season.

“While the work is being carried out during the designated hours, motorists are invited to either wait for the repairs to be completed or use alternative routes”.

Mr Ebbo said the government regrets any inconvenience the maintenance work may cause road users.
