Oyo North senatorial election characterised by alterations, overvoting – Peller tells tribunal

Accord’s candidate in the Oyo North Senatorial District, Hon. Shina Abiola Peller, has disclosed that the 2023 senatorial election was characterised by irregularities such as alterations and overvoting.

Peller, who represented Iseyin/Itesiwaju/ Iwajowa/ Kajola Federal Constituency between 2019 and 2023, insisted that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that conducted the election held on Saturday, 25th February 2023, did not follow the provisions of the electoral law before it declared Dr Fatai Buhari, of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the election.

Peller made these revelations while being cross-examined by INEC counsel, Mr Osita Mbamalu, at the National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal on Thursday in Ibadan.

The tribunal comprises Justice H.A. Njoku, Justice Z.A. Sada and Justice H.M. Danja.

Peller said that there were alterations to some of the results brought by his party agents while some were also mutilated.

He added that “the elections were not free and fair because of the discrepancies, there were missing results in some LGAs in the senatorial district”.

He insisted that he won the Oyo North Senatorial District election based on his calculation.

He then told the tribunal that “the result declared by INEC was wrong”.
