Improve health system, group tells govt

The Ikeja Metro Lions Club of District 404-B2 has called on the government to improve the country’s health sector.

The club during the ground-breaking ceremony of its core project for 2022-2023, titled, ‘Renovation and equipping of Intensive Care Unit of Gbagada, General Hospital, Lagos,’ told well-meaning Nigerians to support the growth of the health sector.

District Governor of Lion Metro Club District 404-B2, Mr Lekan Owolabi, said, “Service organisations, especially Lions Club that have international platforms and members across the world and resources to make the required impact have been making efforts with providing Infrastructures.

“The more we have members to partner with their time, talent and treasure the better for our generation.”

Also speaking, Club Core Project Chairperson, Blessing Umebali, urged the government to be sensitive to issues that had to do with health, stressing that a working government would take proactive measures to ensure that the nation’s  health care system was worldclass.

“We were told that 90 per cent of patients who are been referred to Intensive Care Unit die on their way since the Hospital hasn’t got any,” she said.

Managing Director, General Hospital Gbagada, Dr Babafemi Olusegun, said,

“We need this kind of partnership. Government cannot do everything.”
