The chairman of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria, ALGON, Ebonyi State chapter, Mr Ogodo Ali Nomeh, has urged Nigerians to be patient with the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, especially with the removal of fuel subsidy in the country.
He said that Tinubu-led administration will soon release its planned palliatives to the citizens of the country to cushion the effect of the fuel subsidy removal.
Ogodo-Ali made this known while speaking with newsmen a few hours before the courtesy visit of the Assistant Inspector General of Police Zone 9, AIG Echeng Echeng.
Ogodo-Ali, who is the chairman of Ezza North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, however, frowned at the arbitrary hike in the price of fuel by the petroleum dealers in the country.
According to him: “The truth is that there is no construction without destruction, as some people are already feeling the pains, but I believe that with time, things will normalize. Fuel subsidy is what has been holding Nigeria at ransom. It’s good that it has been removed.
“We need to study it and see how the economy of the country will move in the next six months. This will actually help us to take a position on whether the fuel subsidy removal is good or bad. There must be inflation following the removal of the subsidy. There must be a way to cushion the effect on the people.
“In every change, some people will cry, while others will smile. And this is one of the changes we expected because change is inevitable. The majority of people in the country are suffering as a result of the subsidy removal, but we believe that with patience, we are going to overcome it and laugh at the end,” he stated.
