The chairmen of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the seven states of North West region, have endorsed a former governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje, as the national chairman of the ruling party.

DAILY NIGERIAN reports that Mr Ganduje has been tipped for the party’s top position following the resignation of Abdullahi Adamu.

But some chieftains of the party, including the national vice chairman of the Northwest, Salihu Lukman, have rejected the choice of Mr Ganduje.

However, in a joint statement released after the forum’s meeting on Tuesday, the chairmen said they had unanimously endorsed Mr Ganduje.

The forum hinged their decision on Mr Ganduje’s competency and immense contribution to the party.

The statement was signed by Isa Acida, Sokoto State, EK Jekada, Kaduna State, Abdullahi Abbas, Kano State, Aminu Sani Gumel, Jigawa State, Abubakar Muhammad Kana, Kebbi State, Tukur Danfulani, Zamfara State and Muhammad Sani, Katsina State.

“This decision followed the immense contributions made to the party by the two-term governor of the second most populous state in the nation, Kano, especially at the 2023 general election, which saw the emergence of our most enviable President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR as President.

“It is on record that Dr. Ganduje sojourned the whole country, making contacts and convincing Nigerians on what Nigeria and Nigerians stand to benefit should Tinubu emerge as president.

“We as leaders of the ruling party in our respective states have also gone through every step of good reasons and came to the conclusion and conviction that based on qualification, wealth of experience, maturity, steadfastness, commitment and resilience, Ganduje is the best person for the exalted office of chairman of the party, not only from the zone but in the country,” the statement added.
