Over 300m Africans go hungry daily – Afreximbank President Oramah

The African Export-Import Bank, Afrixembank, said over 300 million Africans go hungry daily due to food insecurity.

According to NAN, Dr Benedict Oramah, President and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Afreximbank, disclosed this at the opening session of the 2nd Russia-African Economic and Humanitarian Forum.

Oramah said that many African economies depend on Russia to supply fertiliser, and 30 per cent of African cereal imports come from Russia.

He called for a sustained trade flow between Russia and African countries.

Oramah added that Afrixembank had made available $3 billion for investment in food security between Russia and Africa.

“The three billion dollars represent what is available and can be used revolvingly to support the significant demand for food and fertiliser in Africa.

“It is important that we all do our best to ensure that until we begin to achieve food sovereignty, food security is attained,” he stated.
