Prioritize workforce planning for efficient civil service – Jigawa citizens to Gov Namadi

Jigawa State citizens have urged Governor Umar Namadi’s administration to prioritize effective workforce planning as the key to building a capable and efficient civil service that will serve the people of the state effectively.

Chairman of NEXT JIGAWA (a civil society) Prof. Haruna Usman made the call in a press statement issued to Media Talk Africa.

He said the state civil service is being threatened by a series of challenges which if not urgently addressed may lead to the collapse of the civil service.

Prof. Haruna explained that some of the challenges identified include;” high turnover rates, erosion of experienced senior civil servants due to retirement, inadequate supply of qualified individuals and Training of staff.

“Other challenges are “Lack of Comprehensive workforce Statistics and discontinuity in recruitment and Training.

“These are among the major challenges faced by the Jigawa State civil service hindering effective service delivery,” Prof. Haruna said.

He further advised the Jigawa State Government to partner with private Sector and Development partners to address the issues of workforce Challenges and engaged with Tertiary institutions to align their curricula with specific skills required by the civil service.

Prof. Haruna also tasked the State Government to address the issues of absenteeism among the civil servants and review the salary Structure to eliminate disparate pay which disrupts workforce harmony and creates competition for the workforce across the sectors.
