Anti-graft War: EFCC Inaugurates Zero Tolerance Club In Tertiary Institution

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has inaugurated a Zero Tolerance Club at the University of Cross River State, UniCross as part of efforts to curb examination malpractice and cyber fraud.

The Commission, led by its Uyo Zonal Commander, Mr. Bawa Hamidu, also equipped members of the club with the necessary tools to sensitize students on the need to fight corruption within the institution located in Calabar south local government area of Cross River State, southern Nigeria.

Mr. Hamidu urged the students to checkmate activities of cyber criminals within their immediate environment, noting that they would be contributing to rid the society of persons engaged in defrauding innocent citizens of their hard-earned money.

He enumerated the core values of the “Zero Tolerance Club” to include integrity, honesty, discipline, responsibility, tolerance, and patriotism, noting that members of the club were part of the command and should report cases of corruption accordingly.

Hamidu listed the aims and objectives of the club to the students, saying “the club shall adhere to all policies and guidelines of the school and society where it is found. The club shall partner with EFCC through information gathering and sharing aimed at checking corrupt practices in your environment.”

I urged you to identify corrupt tendencies and practices in your environment and deal with them by ‘doing something’ to eradicate them and prepare members for future leadership roles,” he advised.

In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Cross River State, Professor Austin Angba expressed appreciation to the EFCC for Inaugurating the club within the institution to assist in the fight against corruption.

He further expressed the hope that members would achieve the stipulated objectives in line with the guideline and respect for the rule of law.

Similarly, the President of the Students Union Government, UniCross chapter, Mr. Paulinus Unah assured of his commitment to partner with the commission to check corruption in the Institution.
