The Nigerian Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has pledged its support to the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA) in their humanitarian activities, particularly in the areas of agriculture and healthcare. Mr Olusade Adesola, the FCTA Permanent Secretary, made this announcement during a courtesy visit by a delegation from POWA, led by Mrs Elizabeth Egbetokun, the wife of the Inspector General of Police.
Mr Adesola emphasized that the association’s efforts in agricultural production and healthcare align with the mandate of the FCT Administration. He also commended the past and present wives of the Inspectors General of Police for their dedication in sustaining and elevating the activities of POWA.
The Permanent Secretary expressed admiration for the association’s support to police officers in the line of duty, acknowledging the importance of caring for those who risk their lives daily to protect the public. He shared a personal experience, stating, “The POWA is a brand that is so popular because your membership is very large and you are present in all states. Many of us have benefited from your activities. For instance, my children started school in a POWA school. So, in a way, I benefited from it.”
He further praised the association, saying, “We appreciate POWA for all that you have been doing, particularly the successive wives of IGPs, for sustaining the activities and operations of the association. It is our prayer that during your tenure, POWA too will grow and accomplish its desired goals for women.”
Mrs Elizabeth Egbetokun, the wife of the Inspector General of Police, highlighted POWA’s aspirations to acquire land for the construction of an ultra-modern hospital for police officers’ wives and for agricultural purposes to enhance food production and combat hunger. She also requested the assistance of the FCT Administration in channeling support from donor agencies for the hospital project.
The delegation accompanying Mrs Egbetokun included the wives of senior police officers. The event was attended by Mr Adamu Gwary, Director of Security Services; Dr Abdulatif Bello, Director DRTS; Dr Jumai Ahmadu, Ag. Director of Reform Coordination and Service Improvement; Mr Samuel Atang, Director, Office of the Permanent Secretary; and other senior officials of the FCTA.
