Gov Otti didn’t resign from APC before contesting on LP platform – Witnesses tell Abia tribunal

Two witnesses have told the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal in Umuahia that Governor Alex Otti did not resign his membership of the All Progressives Congress, APC, before contesting the governorship on the platform of Labour Party

Friday Ugorji, who testified as PW2 in the governorship election petition filled by Chief Ikechi Emenike of the APC said that he is the Chairman of ward 5, Isiala Ngwa South LGA and that Alex Otti is the number one in the ward’s party register of APC.

According to him: “Alex Otti left APC without due process and did not submit any resignation letter.”

The Director of Records, Documentations and Mobilisation of the party, Engr Alozie Macsolomo spoke in the same vein.

He is PW3 and affirmed that Otti did not resign from APC as provided by the Electoral Act.

The witness referred the tribunal to paragraph 10 of his written deposition which he had earlier adopted in the witness box.

Meanwhile, the lead counsel to the petitioner, Tochukwu Maduka, SAN, has closed his case.

The tribunal adjourned to Tuesday, August 8, 2023, for the respondents to commence their defence.
