The Wife of the Anambra State Governor in Southeast Nigeria, Mrs Nonye Soludo has urged Mothers to build a good relationship with their children to help their social, moral and mental development.
She said this would bond families and Illuminate society.
Mrs Soludo stated this when she hosted female Commissioners, Wives of members of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Commissioners and transition committee Chairmen in Awka, the state capital.
In preparation for this year’s August meeting, Mrs. Soludo has been meeting with different women groups, to have a chat on issues that should form part of the annual meeting’s agenda.
According to the Governor’s wife, “By sharing closeness with their children, mothers can have an edge over wrong moral and social incursions, especially those that happen around the homes, schools and other environments.”
She urged mothers to be their children’s best friends by relating with them in a way that gives them the freedom to express themselves. Mrs Soludo also encouraged them to use their positions to positively enrich society.
She said that it is important for wives to make the home a safe and enjoyable place for their husbands, stressing that “family fallouts can affect the larger society negatively.”
The Anambra first lady further urged the women to use their positions as opinion leaders to lead the campaign for right health habits, saying that her healthy living crusade is systemically introducing an acceptable way of life in Anambra households.
The Anambra State Head of Service, Theodore Igwebe, during the interface, commended the healthy living crusade of the Governor’s wife.
He noted that the impact would be helpful not just to women and children but to everyone living in the society who is conscious about their health.
The Guest Speaker, Professor Brian Adinma urged the women to take family planning practices seriously and to access birth control methods that work within available family resources considering the current rate of indiscriminate birth increase.
The professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology also spoke about the possibility of sex selection or the choice of which gender a couple wants to birth, explaining that “with the right knowledge of one’s reproductive system, the possibility of sex selection is hugely achievable.”
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Anambra State Ministry of Agriculture, Mrs Ify Uzorka, who talked about opportunities in agriculture, advocated a return to organic agricultural practices as against inorganic farming that is harmful to human health.
She noted that despite the current economic difficulties, women have no excuse not to eat healthily.
Uzorka urged the women to use their August meetings to talk about the health implications of using chemicals to farm or preserve foods.
Present at the event were, Wife of the Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Mrs Chinyere Udeze, Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Mrs Ify Obinabo, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Anambra State, Professor Sylvia Ifemeje, that of Budget and Economic Planning, Mrs Chiamaka Make.
Also at the event were; the Transition Committee Chairman of Idemili South, Mrs Amaka Obi and the Anambra State Reproductive Health Coordinator, Dr Uju Okoye, among other female public servants.
