BREAKING: FG files fresh charges against Emefiele, to withdraw firearm case

The Federal Government on Tuesday utilized to withdraw the “illegal possession of firearms” case it filed against the suspended Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele.

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) on the Federal Ministry of Justice, Mohammed Abubakar, in an oral utility, informed Justice Nicholas Oweibo of the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos State that the appliance adopted the results of additional investigations.

But, Emefiele’s counsel, Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Joseph Daudu, opposed the appliance, insisting that the federal government should first purge itself of the disobedience of the court docket’s order granting Emefiele bail earlier than its utility could possibly be taken.

Justice Oweibo has adjourned until Thursday, August 17, 2023, to rule on the appliance.

Speaking to newsmen, the DPP mentioned a fresh 20 counts have been filed on the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court.

One of the counts, he mentioned, accused Emefiele of “conferring unlawful advantages”.
