Police launch ‘Operation Zero Crime’ in Rivers

The Rivers State Police Command has officially launched its latest initiative, “Operation Zero Crime,” as part of their ongoing efforts to combat crime and create a safe and secure environment for the residents and investors in Rivers State.

Commissioner of Police, Nwonyi Polycarp Emeka, spearheaded this one-week program, designed to instill a sense of safety across all 23 local government areas of the state while promoting the message that “the police are your friends.”

The coordinator of the program, Kate Ezeigbo, a respected journalist, announced that the state Police Command has embarked on a partnership with the Rivers State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN), comedians, hoteliers, and corporate organizations in the state to ensure the safety and well-being of all residents.

Collaborators in the planning of the program include legal and medical practitioners, lecturers, and Nollywood actors, all working together to create a comprehensive approach to combating crime.

Ezeigbo revealed that the one-week event will encompass a variety of activities, including a road walk, a workshop, a medical outreach led by the Commissioner of Police, an essay competition, a beauty pageant (Queen and King), a football competition (CP Cup), and a concert known as the “Night of Laughter.”

The statement also outlined that the Commissioner of Police, along with his management team and officers, will conduct routine stop-and-search operations, distribute gift items, and visit major flashpoints in order to educate young people on the importance of rejecting a life of crime and instead choosing to live responsibly and lawfully.

Ezeigbo further hinted at an amnesty program spearheaded by the police boss, aimed at providing an opportunity for cultists and individuals involved in criminal activities to denounce their involvement, surrender their weapons, and reintegrate themselves back into society.
