Subsidy Removal Palliatives: Ekiti Initiates Distribution of 3,000 Bags of Rice

The Ekiti State Government has commenced the distribution of 3,000 bags of rice as palliatives to alleviate the impact of the subsidy removal.

During a press briefing following the weekly executive meeting, Ebenezer Boluwade, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security and Chairman of the Palliative Distribution Committee, revealed that five trucks of palliatives arrived in the state on Monday.

According to Boluwade, “As of last Friday, we received 3,000 bags of rice from the Federal Government. During the unloading of the five trucks, 18 bags were deemed defective, leaving us with a total of 2,992 bags of good rice.”

He further explained, “We have set aside 100 bags for widows and 200 bags for all artisans in the private sector. The transport union has been allocated 180 bags, and all market women in Ekiti State will receive 100 bags each. A particular group will be provided with 150 bags, while 140 bags will go to people with disabilities. The elderly and pensioners will benefit from 100 bags, and the junior staff of the civil service will receive 100 bags as well.”

The distribution, which will commence on Wednesday, will be carried out across the 177 political wards in the state’s 16 local government areas.

Prior to this, the Commissioner for Information, Taiwo Olatunbosun, assured the public that the distribution will be conducted in batches and will include individuals from all political parties.

He urged those who have not yet received the palliatives in the first batch to be patient as the distribution process will cover the entire state.
