Ministerial Appointment: Mismatched Portfolios Raises Concerns, Says Bwala

An aide to Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the last general election, Daniel Bwala, has voiced his concerns about the mismatched portfolios assigned by President Bola Tinubu to his appointed ministers.

Bwala expressed his reservations on Thursday during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today program.

Last Wednesday, Tinubu assigned 45 portfolios to ministers-designate who are set to be sworn in on Monday.

However, Bwala, who is also a former lawmaker, argued that some individuals were assigned to roles that were not suited for their expertise.

“I have reservations about many of Tinubu’s ministers. I would describe my concerns as square pegs in round holes and an issue of Renewed Hope. There are individuals who, in my view, lack the necessary competence to be on the list,” Bwala stated.

He continued, “Furthermore, there are capable individuals whose portfolios do not align with their skills. For instance, Hannatu has been appointed as the Minister of Culture, while her counterpart, Betta Edu, has been appointed as the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs.”

Bwala also raised questions about the appointment of a former governor, who scored a mere 5 out of 100 in his performance in addressing insecurity during his tenure. “Now you have made him the Minister of State for Defence. What exactly does he have to administer?” he queried.
