Nigerian Professor becomes 4th African In American Mathematical Society

Nigeria’s Professor of Mathematical Biology, Abba Gumel, has been elected as the 4th ever African in the American Mathematical Society.

Prof. Gumel has contributed to the theory of epidemics, dynamical systems and the use of mathematical algorithms to solve health-related challenges.

With over 160 peer-reviewed research & numerous book chapters, Professor Gumel is one of eight US-based scientists who signed a memorandum of understanding with seven Nigerian universities on building world-class capacity in biomedical sciences research & pedagogy.

He was named an Extraordinary Professor and was chosen to give the AMS Einstein Public Lecture in Mathematics of the American Mathematical Society.

Prof. Abba Gumel was also a graduate of Bayero University in Kano state, northern Nigeria.
