In a significant move, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has officially designated the 20th of August as Isese Day, a public holiday to be observed annually in the state.
The announcement, which was made on Friday, comes after years of traditional religion adherents in the state advocating for their own public holiday.
These adherents have consistently implored the state government to declare the 20th of August as a public holiday in celebration of the Isese day.
In response to their request, Governor Makinde has granted their appeal by proclaiming Monday, August 21, 2023, as the inaugural public holiday to commemorate the Isese day.
Additionally, the governor has decreed that every 20th of August moving forward will be observed as a public holiday in honor of the Isese day in Oyo State.
This momentous declaration was conveyed through a statement signed by the Secretary to the Oyo State Government, Professor Olanike Adeyemo.
On this occasion, the governor encouraged traditional worshippers in the state to utilize the holiday as a time of prayer for the peace, unity, and stability of both the state and the nation at large.
