Exequiel Palacios, the talented World Cup winner from Argentina, recently shed light on the reasons his highly anticipated move to Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid failed to materialize.
Palacios, who emerged as one of South America’s most promising talents during his time at River Plate, was on the verge of joining the Spanish La Liga giants in 2020.
However, in a surprising turn of events, the 24-year-old midfielder ultimately found himself signing with Bayer Leverkusen for a fee of €17 million.
Opening up about the botched transfer, Palacios revealed to Marca, “Real Madrid sent their representatives for a medical examination, but unfortunately, the move fell through due to an injury.”
Despite the setback, Palacios remains optimistic, asserting, “As someone who always strives for more, I believe that if the transfer didn’t materialize, it was for a reason. I am determined to achieve great things and it is solely up to me.”
Palacios is currently honing his skills under the guidance of the esteemed Xabi Alonso, a figure many are touting to be Real Madrid’s next manager once Ancelotti departs from the hallowed halls of the Santiago Bernabeu.
