The government of Osun State has officially announced its intention to recruit teachers for public schools.
This significant development was communicated by the Commissioner for Education, Dipo Eluwole, during a press conference held in Osogbo on Friday.
In addition, the state government has specifically called on the 1,509 teachers who were initially recruited by the Adegboyega Oyetola administration but subsequently suspended by Governor Ademola Adeleke to reapply for the positions.
Ensuring the recruitment of qualified and competent teachers at all levels of education in the State, the Commissioner emphasized the seriousness with which the selection process will be undertaken.
He reiterated that only those applicants who meet the necessary qualifications will be considered and employed.
The Commissioner also expressed his deep concern over the declining quality of education in Osun State and highlighted the administration’s commitment to revitalizing the sector.
“There has been a significant decline in the educational standard in Osun State. We are actively working towards its improvement, and we seek divine intervention,” said the Commissioner.
He further announced that the State 2023 Educational Summit will be organized to address the various challenges affecting the educational system in Osun. All matters discussed during the summit will be thoroughly examined and addressed.
The Commissioner emphasized that former employees from the previous administration would need to reapply, alongside new applicants. He assured the public that only experts and qualified individuals would be considered for teaching positions in Osun State.
“When we speak of retraining teachers, it is more feasible for the government to train those who already possess experience in the field. Thus, only experts will be recruited as teachers in Osun State,” he stated.
“I want to assure you that both primary and secondary levels will be targeted for employment. Only highly qualified teachers will be employed, and we are wholeheartedly committed to this endeavor.”
